3 Proofs God made Buhari President

God appoints leaders, uses them for His purposes, and no plan of His can fail. Buhari’s presidency is under God’s control.

Is Buhari God’s will for Nigeria? 3 Proofs God made Buhari President

There is a wide chasm in Nigeria right now. There are those who are happy that finally Nigeria will experience the “change” it deserves. While on the other hand, we see those who are unhappy. The basis of this unhappiness varies from ethnicity to religion depending on who you are and where you live. But somewhere among these groups are the skeptical. They are wondering “Is Buhari God’s will for Nigeria?”, “Will he islamise Nigeria and foster Islamic plans?” and so on. I want to answer these questions with three proofs.

Proof 1: Only God appoints kings

He changes times and seasons;
he removes kings and sets up kings;
Daniel 2:21

It might appear that God is apparently silent in the political affairs of man. Since special prayers were not rendered at the polling units, one might think that the race is only for the swift. But that is far from the truth. God controls who becomes the President of Nigeria and who does not. Control here does not mean God permissively allows it. No, it means He orders it. The words “change”, “remove” and “set up” are not passive words. God is not passive about any kingdom no matter how small. He has removed President Goodluck Jonathan and put General Muhammadu Buhari in his place. That does not necessarily mean that President Jonathan has failed, but God changes “times and seasons”.

A careful reader might ask “So, does it mean the God of the Bible can appoint a Muslim as a king”? I will say yes. “What if he fails to rule well”? That God appoints a king does not mean that the king will rule justly. Reading through Isaiah 13 – 23, it is clear that God is not interested only in Israel but Babylon, Assyria, Philistine, Moab, Egypt, Cush, Damascus, Tyre, Arabia and so on. God destroyed some kingdoms because of their pride. This shows God is actively at work in the affairs of man, including Nigeria.

Proof 2: God uses kings

The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water:
he turneth it whithersoever he will.
Proverbs 21:1

This is the scary part. No President or king is actually independent. It might seem so, but it is not. A very good example is the story of Abimelech and Sarah (Abraham’s wife). King Abimelech had thought Sarah was not married and took her to himself. When God appeared to him, he boasted that in his integrity he did not touch Sarah. God told him “it was I who kept you from sinning against me.” (Gen 20:6). The Bible tells us in Romans that God raised Pharaoh to show the whole earth of His might. General Buhari will not be free as the President of Nigeria to do as he likes. He is under the authority of the King of kings who can steer his heart as He likes. He can harden or soften it to accomplish His will and purposes.

Proof 3: God’s plans cannot be thwarted

I know that you can do all things,
and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
Job 42:2

The depth of the wisdom of God cannot be understood. How He uses any king to achieve His wills and purposes is beyond the understanding of man. What is clear to us is that, all things work together for good for the people of God. Hear O Christian and rejoice. No man can negatively affect the plans and purposes of God for Nigeria. Not even the president. The fear of GMB islamising Nigeria should disappear.  The fear of GMB fostering Islamic agendas should disappear. The fear of Boko Haram prevailing over the church should disappear. The people of God cannot be stopped. Not because we are that powerful in ourselves but because we have been bought with the precious blood of our Commander-in-Chief, the Lord Jesus Christ.
